The Pagan Music List 28

The PAGAN MUSIC LIST is an attempt to create a comprehensive list of Pagan, Heathen, Esoteric, Animist, and related music that we listen to and love. We include embedded YouTube, Soundcloud, or Bandcamp links when possible for each artist.

Previous collections in this series have been archived here, and new collections of reviews will be posted monthly (supporters get early access to new collections—find out more here).

We also provide a constantly updated index of artists that we have reviewed by name and genre.

And if you are a Spotify listener, you can click on the embedded player to listen to the full updated playlist!

Collection 28:
Best new albums of 2022

2022 saw quite a few new album releases from great bands. Here are our favorites.

Rúnahild:
Wounded Healer

Our favorite new release of 2022 was Rúnahild’s latest album, “Wounded Healer.” We’ve reviewed her work previously and also interviewed her, for good reason: her music is amazing.

IANAI:
Sunir

We reviewed Ianai’s album, Sunir, a little after it came out this year, and its brilliance has held up since then. Check out their song ‘Savoj Icoil,'“ particularly.

FAUN:
Pagan

Our reviewer wasn’t immediately too sold on Faun’s latest album, Pagan, mostly because of Fiona Rüggeberg’s departure from the band. Taken from a different perspective, the album is quite good, especially the track they did with Eluveitie, '“Gwydion.”

Żywiołak

Dekonstrukcja historyczna I

Żywiołak is a crazy Polish pagan band that is so much fun they are perhaps a little too much fun. Their latest album, Dekonstrukcja historyczna I (“Historical Deconstruction, 1) was just released in time to make it on our year’s list.

Sowulo:
Wurdiz

Released in September of this year, Sowulo’s latest album, Wurdiz, is even better than their earlier music. It’s also perfectly atmospheric.
