Another World, January 2022

Another World is now one year old!

Thanks so much for your support of our work this past year. Here’s to another year!

Announcements

We’ve several new books planned for publication in the early half of 2022, and we’ll be expanding the format offerings for all our previous books by popular demand.

Soon, we’ll release Kindle and epub editions of every book we’ve published, meaning they’ll be available also on Amazon, AppleBooks, and other outlets. Later in 2022 we will begin producing audio book versions of select titles, as well.

And we’ve also decided to extend our end-of-the-year book sale to 31 January, 2022. Up to that date, you can continue to get 20% off any order over $20 USD. Remember that your free shipping benefit as a permanent supporter can also be combined with this offer!

Upcoming Courses

We are still finalising our Spring course catalog offerings, but we can announce that Rhyd Wildermuth’s popular course based off his book, Being Pagan, will begin 6 March, 2022. To sign up for this as part of your supporter benefit, please email us at distro@abeautifulresistance.com

THE PAGAN MUSIC LIST 17

This edition features three bands: Ævestaden, Gåte, Wardruna

From Valerian Snow Flower-Power, a long-form account of the relationship between the Catholic Workers and indigenous and pagan activists, and the transformative power of intentional working-class spiritual communities.

Day and Maurin faced the same anti-theist dilemma many Pagans face when engaging in anti-capitalist and anarchist dialogue. When we’re lucky, it’s anarchist strategy and organizing and, rarest of all in these isolated times of social media, direct action. While many of the early CW Houses were co-founded by Catholic priests and laity, over the years those that were headed by their founders have adopted more democratic decision-processes, such as the commitment/longevity weighted decision process held by the Open Door CW, and the indigenous-originated consensus process of the Karen House. Many have become ecumenical and inter-faith. Day challenges anti-theism plainly from her experiences organizing as a communist early in her life.

Our second featured essay from Aidan Simardone, discussing the balance between individuality and collectivity through “desire paths,” the footpaths humans make to get to where they want to go, rather than the paths made for them.

Deconstructing these abstractions, the individual sees them as illusions. Realizing this, they can now fulfill their desire. Walking across the property, their feet ruffle the grass. A barely visible path emerges. Another pedestrian notices this. Always walking on the sidewalk, they never thought about taking a quicker route through another’s property. Taking the path, the grass if flattened. Another pedestrian notices, and decides to take the path, and so on. Eventually a path emerges, that everyone can enjoy. What once seemed impossible—the reappropriation of property for all—is realized. Rather than emerging from an abstract goal—communism, revolution, class consciousness—this resistance to property emerged from individual desire.
